Our Mission: 100 Beaches Cleaned ✓ 1.2 million lbs of Plastic Removed ✓ *Between 2020 - 2025

In 2020, we set a goal to remove 1 million lbs of plastic from our business and beaches across the country in time for our 100th birthday in 2025. In partnership with Oceanic Global, we’ve not only reached that goal – we’ve exceeded it, reaching 1.2 million pounds removed over the 5 years.

About Corona’s Mission to Protect Our Beaches

In partnership with Oceanic Global, Protect Our Beaches was launched to not only remove existing plastic pollution off of beaches around the U.S., but to also prevent new waste streams of plastic from winding up on beaches in the future. Since 2020, we’ve cleaned up 100 beaches across the country through a series of high-yield and community-based efforts. At the same time, we made a series of thoughtful changes across our business to transition away from plastics and play our part in reducing new demand. These blended efforts resulted in over 1.2 million lbs of plastic removed through the initiative.

Together with Oceanic Global and Professional Cleanup Crews we’ve partnered on 4 High Impact Cleanups, removing waste from 21 Beaches.

2024: NEW YORK 33,387 LBS OF PLASTIC REMOVED

2024: Waste from New York City and Long
Island flows through storm drains like canal systems and ends up on the perimeter of the coastal NYC beaches, so we chose this location for our 4th high impact cleanup. Together with Oceanic Global and local community partners, we removed 33,387 lbs of waste from New York ecosystems that help protect the city and its human and animal inhabitants.

2023: TEXAS 33,876 LBS OF PLASTIC REMOVED

2023: The Coastal Bend collects more trash per every mile of Texas beach than any other Gulf state. For our third high impact cleanup in Corpus Christi, United by Blue removed 33,876 lbs of plastic waste and cleaned hundreds of miles of cherished beaches on Texas’s Gulf Coast.

2022: CALIFORNIA 16,941 LBS OF PLASTIC REMOVED

2022: The biodiversity-rich Channel Islands off the coast of California are home to hard-to-reach beaches that require specialized technologies and expertise to clean. Our second high impact cleanup with United by Blue removed over 16, 941 lbs of plastic waste from these remote islands as well as the nearby Santa Maria Riverbed.

2021: FLORIDA 31,278 LBS OF PLASTIC REMOVED

2021: Florida’s South Dade Wetlands are an environmentally endangered area near Miami with over 20 threatened species and over 700 species of wildlife! Together with the cleanup experts at United by Blue, our first high impact cleanup removed over 31,278 lbs of plastic waste to help protect the beach and local marine life.

Taking place in heavily polluted beaches around the U.S., our high impact cleanups
uncovered everything from plastic wrappers and fishing nets to refrigerators and electronics. The professional cleanup crews on-site sorted through the various types of trash encountered to repurpose, recycle and/or dispose of it in accordance with the protocols and waste management regulations in each location.

How Corona is Taking Action

Protecting Our Beaches means doing what we can to keep them clean of plastics both now and in the future. It also means supporting and uplifting the local communities that care for our beaches and call them home.

Our community cleanups brought people together to make a positive impact on their local environments. Our 79 cleanups engaged over 3,500 volunteers and 50 local partners and non-profits groups throughout the nation.

Similar to our High Impact cleanups, we worked with cleanup experts and local to sort, repurpose, and recycle the waste collected with the goal of sending as little to landfill as possible*  Since a large quantity of plastic found on beaches is non-recyclable, we also made changes across our business to reduce plastics and play our part in stopping pollution at the source.

*Plastic and waste disposal protocols and infrastructure vary from city to city. Reach out to your local municipality or visit your local city government's website for specific information on waste management procedures. You can also browse the United States Environmental Protection Agency website for a list of resources by US State.

**Plastic reduction utilizes annual procurement data across business operations. Plastic reduction is based on an annual comparison of total weight of products procured and total plastic weight of products procured, adjusting for organization scale and product procurement changes. Internal plastic reduction focuses on specific procurement data across high-volume teams. Reduction impact metrics are not representative of all Corona operations.
